John Stubbings, group director and company secretary at the Essex-based Woodland Group, has been appointed chairman of the British International Freight Association's Legal and Insurance Policy Group.

In his 35-year career, Stubbings has worked for various BIFA member companies, starting with International Express in 1978. He also worked for Kelleher Forwarding and Uniserve before joining Woodland in 1995.

Having served as a member of the legal group for the past two years, Stubbings has also played an active role in the London East regional members meetings.

He said: 'It's quite daunting to follow in the footsteps of past chairmen Ron Willis and Christine D'Arcy but I am looking forward to joining my fellow Woodland colleagues in playing a more active role in our industry trade association.'

Woodland employees Keith Smaggasgale and Brian Broom are also involved with the association. Smaggasgale sits on the Air Forwarding Policy Group, while Brian Broom sits on the Surface Policy Group.

In becoming a group chairman, Stubbings also takes a place on the BIFA Council, the body responsible for the governance of the association.
