The crew of the container ship ZIM Constanza, while on its way from the USA to Tarragona, Spain, received a distress call from a yacht, in the vicinity of the Azores islands. ZIM Constanza commenced a rescue operation, coordinated with the Marine authorities in Porto Delgada in the Azores, and reported to ZIM head office. The distress call was apparently due to engine failure. Captain Petru Baias of the ZIM Constanza reported that the yacht's skipper in on board his vessel, appears to be exhausted but well. He received assistance and was served food and drink. After the approval of the local marine authorities the ship returned to its original course and continues towards Tarragona, Spain with the rescued person on board.
ZIM Constanza operates on ZCA service, between US East Coast and the Mediterranean.  Assisting a distressed vessel at sea in the best maritime tradition is part and parcel of ZIM's leading principles and code of ethics.
