On the 25th of October 2008, ZPMC (Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery), a Chinese company specializing in the construction of cranes and large steel structures, delivered two super post-Panamax gantry cranes to NFTI, the container terminal operator of the port of Dunkirk. The two cranes left Shanghai last august by ship and after a call to Algeciras has arrived in Dunkirk. These cranes, able to work up to 23 rows of containers, will be added to the already existing three similar and already operational cranes on the deepwater quay. Each of the cranes weighs around 1,600 MTS. They are able to operate two 20’ containers simultaneously in « Twin Lift » and are prepared to operate two 40’ containers in «Tandem Lift» NFTI container terminal now has four berths available, able to receive some of the biggest container vessels in the world. NFTI receives calls from two Europe-Asian Lines, namely the FAL3 (French Asia Line) of CMA CGM and the Asia- Europe AE10 line of MAERSK LINE. Only one hour and 30 mns away from the most frequently used maritime route in the world, NFTI, an affiliate of APM Terminals, Terminal Link and the Port Authority of Dunkirk, has a quay length of 1,700m and drafts of 16,50m.
