Recently there have been reports of reefer containers serviced in Vietnam becoming safety issues.

The CMA CGM Group confirms that several reefer containers, suspected of representing a danger to human and vessel safety following maintenance by a repair yard in Vietnam, have been placed in quarantine as a precautionary measure after an explosion occurred in one of these containers in October in Qingdao.

All suspect containers were immediately identified and disconnected, and no longer represent a risk. All necessary instructions were given to the teams on land and at sea to ensure these containers were handled and stored in complete safety. These measures apply to 82 containers that have undergone repairs in Vietnam since March 1, 2011.

As an extra precaution, the CMA CGM Group is checking all containers that have undergone maintenance in Vietnam since January 1, 2011. It concerns around 250 reefer containers. Experts have been employed by CMA CGM to determine the cause of the problem.

The Group is working closely with other shipping companies affected by this problem to ensure that all necessary safety measures are taken.
