Port of Long Beach moves nearly 590,000 TEUs in July, year’s highest

The monthly container cargo count at the Port of Long Beach increased for the eighth straight month in July 2010, rising 35.8 percent compared to the same month last year. Imports were up 32.5 percent, while exports rose 16.4 percent. Overall, the Port handled a total of 587,881 twenty-foot equivalent container units in July; 293,878 TEUs inbound, 126,177 loaded outbound TEUs and 167,826 TEUs of empty containers. Empty containers, which are mostly bound overseas for refilling, were up 63.1 percent.
