UASC creates new joint-venture company with Medmar S.P.A.

United Arab Shipping Company (UASC), the international container transportation provider, has announced the incorporation of a joint-venture company together with its long standing agent in Italy, Medmar S.p.A. United Arab Shipping Agency Company (Italy) S.r.L. ’ or in short UASAC (Italy) S.r.L. ’ was incorporated in Genoa on 13th December 2007 and will assume agency duties in all of Italy as of January 1st 2008. UASAC (Italy) S.r.L. will have its own fully owned offices in Genoa, La Spezia, Livorno and Milan whilst the representation in Naples, Venice and other ports will be through existing sub-agents.

Ken Bloch Soerensen, UASC’s President and CEO, welcomed the development. ‘We’ve been working with our friends at Medmar towards this end for some time,’ he commented. ‘We are pleased to continue our more than 20 year long relationship, providing UASC with a solid platform on which to build our future growth in major markets in the ever growing Mediterranean region.’

Luigi Negri, President of Medmar S.p.A., commented: ‘This is a very positive development in our relationship with UASC, our long time business partner. We are happy to be able to explore the opportunities of growth together.’

The joint-venture company will maintain the existing office locations and will continue to provide the full range of UASC’s service products.

Filippo Gallo, General Manager of the new company, stated: ‘For UASC’s customers it will be a seamless transition as the same people will be serving our customers needs. Going forward we will be able to leverage on the strength of both UASC and Finsea Group building even stronger relationships in the coming years, with increased service offerings to our customers.’

UASC currently operates four weekly services in Italy connecting Asia, Indian Sub-Continent, Arabian Gulf, Red Sea, East Mediterranean and US East Coast, with direct calls at Genoa, La Spezia, Naples and Gioia Tauro and with dedicated shuttle services to/from Livorno and Venice.

In 2008 UASC will take delivery of eight x 7,000 teus ships that will be deployed in the Asia ’ Europe trade.
