The AirportAcademy has successfully completed the first residency program for participants of the Executive MBA in Aviation (EMBAA), delivered in partnership with the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) Business School. The four-day program, held from October 12–15, brought 17 professionals from across the aviation sector to Munich Airport for an immersive learning experience.
The residency is an important milestone in the partnership between Munich Airport's AirportAcademy and CU Denver, which was formalized in July 2025 with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). As part of the agreement, Munich Airport’s training and education division contributes aviation-specific modules to the newly launched Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) program, combining academic excellence with practical expertise. The partnership is AirportAcademy’s first collaboration with an international university.
Throughout the residency, participants gained insider knowledge of the operations of one of Europe’s leading aviation hubs. Sessions covered topics including commercial management, airport operations, safety, digital transformation, sustainability and Munich Airport’s unique joint venture with Lufthansa. Executive discussions focused on key industry challenges, such as balancing growth and sustainability, managing uncertainty and strengthening operational resilience.
The program featured contributions from Munich Airport executives, including Thomas Hoff Andersson, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Dr. Jan-Henrik Andersson, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), and Alexander Hoemer, Vice President AirportAcademy.
"Future aviation leaders need strategic vision and operational understanding," said Dr. Jan-Henrik Andersson, CCO of Munich Airport. "This residency provides a one-of-a-kind setting in which seasoned professionals can share know-how, address industry challenges, and devise solutions for the future of our sector."
"The aviation sector is undergoing profound changes, which makes collaboration and continuous learning more important than ever," said Thomas Hoff Andersson, COO of Munich Airport. "We are proud to share our expertise and provide participants with direct insights into managing an international premium hub airport. The relationships built here are as important as the content,” Hoff Andersson adds.
The program concluded with a case study and group assignment on strategy and master planning development. On the final day, the students presented their work to a panel chaired by Dr. Jan-Henrik Andersson.
The Executive MBA in Aviation, launched by CU Denver Business School in 2026, is the first program of its kind in the United States and is designed for experienced professionals seeking to advance their leadership capabilities within the aviation sector.
