Volga-Dnepr Airlines has carried a 28-ton turbine rotor from Houston to Montego Bay in Jamaica to support uninterrupted operation of the island’s power supply system. The rotor was placed on wooden pallets and loaded onboard the Volga-Dnepr IL-76TD-90VD aircraft using a mobile crane and trailer. The flight was operated on behalf of the international air charter company Chapman Freeborn. The turbine rotor is being used to supply power to the residential sector, hospitals and government facilities in the northern part of the island. Volga-Dnepr has previously transported the rotor for repair from Montego Bay to Chicago onboard an An-124-100 freighter. The flight was completed under the contract signed between Chapman Freeborn and the Russian and Ukrainian joint venture, Ruslan International.
