Tradepoint Atlantic welcomed Anduril Industries’ plans to invest $3.7 billion in Arsenal-2, a new two-million-square-foot maritime manufacturing facility at Sparrows Point. The project marks a new phase of large-scale maritime manufacturing at a site that helped define American steelmaking and shipbuilding, returning a legacy industry in a modern form.
Arsenal-2 will manufacture advanced components for Virginia-class submarines, expanding U.S. submarine production capacity and adding a major new manufacturing operation to Maryland’s maritime industrial base.
At $3.7 billion, the project is Maryland's largest single private investment and the state’s largest job-creating project in more than a decade. Arsenal-2 is expected to create more than 3,100 permanent jobs and support more than 14,000 jobs overall, while generating more than $2 billion in annual economic output, including an estimated $312 million in wages each year.
“Tradepoint Atlantic is uniquely built to provide the infrastructure needed for manufacturing at this scale. Our strategic East Coast location, deep-water port, robust rail and interstate connections, and access to a skilled regional workforce make this one of the most capable industrial sites in the country,” said Doyle.
Anduril’s decision to locate Arsenal-2 at Sparrows Point reinforces the continued growth and diversification at Tradepoint Atlantic, while demonstrating the site’s ability to support complex, long-term production.
"Baltimore's shipyards produced the first Liberty Ship. Arsenal-2 will return large-scale shipbuilding to Sparrows Point - and deliver the submarine production capacity the US Navy needs to meet its fleet requirements," said Anduril CEO and Co-Founder, Brian Schimpf. "The project will create 3,100 direct jobs and support more than 11,000 across the region, all tied to work that matters for national defense. Tradepoint Atlantic is the right partner to bring Anduril to Baltimore County.”
Anduril will join an industrial base at Tradepoint Atlantic that is already home to more than 50 businesses and more than 14,000 jobs across manufacturing, logistics, port operations and related industries. Its scale and specialized production capabilities could also help attract additional manufacturers, engineering firms and suppliers, strengthening the maritime manufacturing base around Sparrows Point.
