CMA “Pelleas” makes Port of NY & NJ first Port of Call

On Friday, July 21st, CMA-CGM of Marseille, France added the CMA-CGM Pelleas to the Ocean Alliance’s Loop 3 service calling at APM Terminals at the Elizabeth-Port Authority Marine Terminal in the Port of New York and New Jersey. The 9,900 teu ship is the largest vessel currently operated by CMA-CGM into the port. The Ocean Alliance service is one of six major east west services which comprises the vessel sharing agreement (VSA), operated by the four members of the Ocean Alliance effective April 1, 2017. The three additional members are: COSCO Shipping, Evergreen, and OOCL. The rotation includes major ports in China and southeast Asia, and makes the Port of New York and New Jersey its first US port of call. The Pelleas is one of many ships of increasing carrying capacity calling New York and New Jersey as a direct result of several preparations made by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey through a slate of capital works projects. These projects include raising the roadway, and therefore the air draft, of the Bayonne Bridge; the Harbor Deepening Program, which secured the ability to load ships to a depth of 50’ if required; and continuing growth, month over month, in import and export volumes available to carriers. Port staff joined executives from APM Terminals and presented Captain with a plaque welcoming the CMA Pelleas.
