• Puerto Rico remains a key location for DHL Global Forwarding’s operations in the U.S. and the Caribbean
  • Celebration was kicked-off with workshops to keep customers up-to-date with trends and compliance topics

MIAMI - DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight specialist of Deutsche Post DHL Group, hosted an event on Dec. 13, 2018, to celebrate the company’s 60th anniversary in Puerto Rico. Held at the Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan, the event also offered DHL’s customers the opportunity to attend free workshops related to trade and an exhibition on healthcare packaging solutions.

“DHL is very much committed to serving our customers shipping to and from Puerto Rico,” said Javier Aleman, station manager at DHL Global Forwarding, Puerto Rico. “Therefore, as important as it was for us to celebrate our anniversary, we felt it was equally necessary to support our customers by providing insight on best trade practices and successful business operations on the island.”

The company held two customer workshops at the event to further help customers stay up-to-date on the recent logistics trends, changes and compliance topics. The Import Compliance Seminar addressed importer responsibilities, best practices and steps needed to successfully fulfill customs requirements established for trade. Concurrently, the Global Life Sciences and Healthcare exhibition brought together 18 certified air and ocean carriers, Temperature control packaging solutions providers, and Life Sciences preferred carriers to network with DHL’s pharmaceutical customers and discuss the capabilities of their services. Customers were also briefed on the regulatory requirements for the Center of Excellence for Independent Validators program (CEIV). The day concluded with an anniversary cocktail hour and a customer appreciation event.

“After the tumultuous natural disasters of 2017, many of our pharmaceutical customers nevertheless remained dedicated to doing business in Puerto Rico,” added Aleman. “We have been present for 60 years in Puerto Rico showing our dedication to both the island and our customers during difficult times and also times of growth and prosperity.” Following Hurricane Maria in 2017, DHL Global Forwarding was the only global forwarder in Puerto Rico to maintain outbound operations without any disruptions.

DHL previously invested $1 million in Puerto Rico in 2016. The island continues to be an important launch point for DHL to the Americas, Europe and Asia, and as one of the DHL certified life science stations, it provides services and coverage to more than 2,000 trade lane pairings across the world.
