SSA Containers President to be honored September 18 by Containerization & Intermodal Institute
LONG BEACH, CA - Edward Anthony DeNike, president of SSA Containers, a division of Carrix, and a 50-year veteran of the international shipping industry, will receive the 2018 Connie Award presented by the Containerization & Intermodal Institute in Long Beach, CA at a dinner on Tuesday, September 18, 2018. The industry-wide event to honor Mr. DeNike will be held at the Renaissance Hotel.
Each year, Connie recipients receive recognition with the prestigious award for their significant contributions to containerization and world trade and transportation field and are acknowledged for their innovative spirit, as well as for the positive example they set for individuals who will be the future the industry.
Mr. DeNike began his career in 1966 with Crescent Wharf & Warehouse. He became a member of the SSA management team when SSA purchased Crescent in 1983. He managed numerous waterfront operations since his initial hiring and has worked in all major ports on the West Coast in all types of cargo operations.
Mr. DeNike was the architect and terminal manager for several major facilities in San Francisco, Oakland and Long Beach. In 1986, he relocated to Seattle from Southern California and assumed overall responsibility for Carrix's West Coast container and select breakbulk operations. He was a Blue Ribbon Committee member responsible for rewriting the Pacific Coast Longshore Contract document and has been heavily involved in container equipment design.
Mr. DeNike is the president of the company's domestic container operations and also serves as chief operating officer for SSA Terminals, Carrix's largest joint venture; Pacific Maritime Services, Carrix's joint venture with COSCO; SSA Terminals (Long Beach), Carrix's joint venture with Mediterranean Shipping; and SSA Terminals (Seattle), Carrix's joint venture with China Shipping.
Mr. DeNike serves on the board of the Pacific Maritime Association.
CII, founded in 1960, has been presenting the Connie Award since 1972 and it has become the most coveted honor in the field of containerization and its ancillary industries. Among some 65 recipients to date are Malcom McLean, James McKenna, Knud Stubkjaer, John Wolfe, Richard Steinke, Helen Bentley, Captain S.Y. Kuo, Matthew Cox and Robert Pfeiffer.
At the event, CII will also carry out its industry education mission by presenting scholarships to students studying logistics. CII has given nearly $800,000 for higher education under its auspices since 1992. Every company has the opportunity to support ongoing industry education by purchasing scholarships through CII, starting at $1,000.
