Guardian Yards, an industrial outdoor storage and truck parking yard operator, has announced it is introducing electric vehicle charging stations for truck fleets at its 25-acre truck parking depot in Sacramento’s Metro Air Park, a master-planned industrial business park comprising 1,320 developable acres.

In April 2023, The California Air Resources Board approved the Advanced Clean Fleets rule requiring a phased-in transition toward zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles (ZEV). As a result, Guardian Yards entered discussions with truck fleet managers and alternative fuel infrastructure providers to establish charging facilities at its Metro Air Park depot, located at 6645 Lone Tree Road.

“As the future of ZEV programs are taking shape, Guardian Yards plans to provide the best solutions for the trucking industry,” said John Tomasello, Managing Member of Guardian Yards. “We are working diligently to find the right partners to make it happen and keep us ahead of the curve."

To date, Guardian Yards has taken the following steps to assist its current and prospective fleet clients’ ZEV interest requirements:

• Proactively installing an initial group of charging stations

• Submitting a SMUD Reg 16 application and fees to secure five (5) megawatts of new power and expand charging capacity for additional demand at its Sacramento depot

• Beginning initial discussions with potential infrastructure partners to make its Sacramento location a full-service, ZEV truck depot with state-of-the-art charging facilities featuring assured compatibility, resilience and the most efficient charging management systems

• Planning for the potential of future hydrogen fueling solutions for its long-haul trucking tenants and/or to meet future power requirements

"SMUD is proud to support Guardian Yards’ work to transform this facility into a cutting-edge zero-emission vehicle truck depot, in alignment with our commitment to support commercial electrification and vision for a clean energy future,” said Brandy Bolden, SMUD's Chief Customer Officer. “Our advanced charging infrastructure projects prioritize compatibility, resilience and efficiency, addressing fleet challenges and reducing costs.”

The operator has also been working with the Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition to further understand the changing landscape of innovation, regulation and public finance opportunities, along with the stakeholders involved.

“With the growing interest in zero-emission trucks, Metro Air Park is an ideal location for a facility that offers fast charging, overnight parking and potentially hydrogen fueling in the future,” said Tim Taylor, Executive Director of the Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition.

Guardian Yards has engaged CBRE’s Todd Sanfilippo to market and lease its Sacramento depot.

“This facility is a first of its kind in the Sacramento region and coming to market in lockstep with interest from corporate users seeking to meet environmental, social and governance goals,” said Sanfilippo.

Guardian Yard’s purpose-built logistics facility at Metro Air Park is situated adjacent to the I-5 and 99 split just east of Sacramento International Airport. The park is home to the nation's leading retail shippers, including Amazon, Walmart, Target and UPS.

The depot features truck and trailer parking and can accommodate requirements from 1,200 square feet to larger spaces for fleets, as well as custom configurations. The property also has 24-hour security gate access and full-site lighting. To date, the depot has filled its first phase of truck parking for traditional semi-truck, bobtail, and box trucks and is currently adding more spots.

Guardian Yards operates several other sites in the Sacramento region that are in the planning stages for future ZEV truck depots.
