Taiwan based transportation and logistics specialist Dimerco has been awarded MTO (Multimodal Transport Operator) status in India, opening up new opportunities for growth for the company in the subcontinent.

Although well established in India, recognized as a Top 5 Freight Forwarder for inbound volume of Chennai Air Cargo Complex by AAI Cargo Logistics and Allied Services with a network of six owned offices and twelve partner offices, the MTO license will now enable Dimerco to provide extended services to shippers, moving cargo from any land point in India to and from any destination in the world, under a single Contract of Carriage.

Under the terms of India’s Multimodal Transportation Act, only those companies who are registered by the Director General of Shipping can carry out Multimodal Transportation, to protect the interests of shippers. Dimerco’s MTO accreditation demonstrates that it has the necessary expertise, infrastructure and financial status to undertake such Multimodal Transportation.

According to Mr. Edward Lin, CEO of Dimerco, the achievement of MTO status will benefit both customers and partner carriers.

He explains, “The manufacturing hubs in India, which contribute a major share of exports, are located deep in the hinterland and far away from the gateway ports. Therefore, the potential for multimodal transportation - including long and short hauls - is immense. As a Multimodal Transport Operator, Dimerco can now take responsibility for transporting cargo from one point to another, utilising more than one mode of transport, ensuring more efficient and cost-effective door to-door movement of goods for our customers.

We can also now work better with ocean carriers, since carriers do not handle shipments from offline/inland areas of India, so for Dimerco MTO recognition is key for our business development and carrier relationships in India.”

The MTO certification has not only enabled Dimerco to provide more extensive multimodal services to customers, but has also gained recognition for the company within the international forwarding community as approved by the Indian government for multimodal transport operations.
