The National Association of Waterfront Employers (NAWE) hosted Federal Maritime Commission Commissioner Robert Harvey this week for a multi-day educational tour of the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach providing firsthand insight into the operations that keep America's international trade moving.
Throughout the visit, Commissioner Harvey met with marine terminal operators, port leadership, and supply chain stakeholders to gain a deeper understanding of terminal operations, infrastructure investments, supply chain resilience, and the challenges and opportunities facing the nation's waterfront employers.
"Marine terminal operators are at the center of America's supply chain, serving as the critical link between global commerce and the U.S. economy," said Carl Bentzel, President of NAWE. "This visit provided an important opportunity for Commissioner Harvey to see firsthand the complexity, scale, and innovation that define our nation's largest gateway ports."
“It was impressive to see both of these ports,” said Commissioner Harvey. “They are not simply the two largest ports on the west coast. They are economic development engines for the entire U.S. supply chain. The investment in modernization as well as the commitment to the surrounding port communities gives them an impact well beyond the gates.”
The visit highlighted the significant investments marine terminal operators continue to make in modernizing facilities, improving cargo fluidity, strengthening supply chain resilience, and maintaining America's competitiveness in global trade.
