Karl Meiringer takes over as new manager of the biggest Gebrüder Weiss branch near Vienna / Andreas Zwerger manages the Region East

Lauterach - Effective from September 3, 2018, Karl Meiringer (43) will be taking over as manager of the Gebrüder Weiss branch in Maria Lanzendorf near Vienna. He will succeed Andreas Zwerger (48), who will concentrate in future on his responsibilities as the new Regional Manager East at Gebrüder Weiss. “I am delighted that Karl Meiringer is taking over the management of the biggest Gebrüder Weiss branch in the world. He has known this location for many years and has already proved his expert and social skills more than once,” says Andreas Zwerger.

Karl Meiringer began his career with Gebrüder Weiss in 1997 at the Vienna/St. Marx location and took over as Group Leader for Southern and Eastern Europe there in 2001. Various functions as Department Manager in the areas of export and land transport followed. Before taking over as Division Manager for land transport at the branch in Maria Lanzendorf in January 2008, Meiringer was involved in the successful implementation of organizational changes and the establishment of new departments. Already a Business School graduate, in 2012 he also completed a ‘Master of Business Administration’ qualification at Vienna's University of Economics and Business.

Andreas Zwerger appointed Regional Manager East 

After graduating from the Business School, Andreas Zwerger joined Gebrüder Weiss in 1990 and played an important role in setting up the logistics solutions area. This was followed by various functions in the area of land transport at the Vienna location. In 2002, Zwerger took over as Division Manager for international land transport there and in 2008 was appointed Branch Manager in Maria Lanzendorf. Since 2012, he has also been responsible for tectraxx, a subsidiary of Gebrüder Weiss specializing in the high-tech sector. Since July 1, 2018, Andreas Zwerger has been concentrating on his work as Regional Manager East at Gebrüder Weiss. His sphere of responsibility now includes not only the Austrian branches in Maria Lanzendorf, Graz and Pöchlarn but also the national organization for Slovakia, and tectraxx. He also took the postgraduate MBA course at Vienna's University of Economics and Business.

Maria Lanzendorf: flagship in the Gebrüder Weiss network

About 780 people are currently employed at the branch in Maria Lanzendorf, at the heart of which is one of the first electric overhead pallet conveyor systems in Europe. Last year, the land transport and logistics divisions handled about four million consignments, mainly for international companies in the high-tech, FMCG, construction and air-conditioning industries. Services include not only national and international land transport and air & sea freight but also individual logistics solutions and direct deliveries to end customers.

Gebrüder Weiss opened its first branch in Vienna already in 1898. About a hundred years later, in 1982, the company moved to the terminal in the St. Marx district, and then in 2006 to the newly opened location in Maria Lanzendorf, so far the biggest logistics center of Gebrüder Weiss. It covers a total area of 125,000 square kilometers, with 47,000 square kilometers dedicated to logistics.
