Today, the Transportation Construction Coalition (TCC), the unified voice of America's transportation construction industry, released a new case study showing how federal transportation investment supports America's energy production, advanced manufacturing, and emerging AI economy.
The new case study examines projects in Alaska, West Virginia, and Virginia that illustrate how transportation infrastructure supports the physical networks, workforce, and industries needed for America’s energy production and advanced manufacturing. From moving workers and materials to energy-producing regions, to improving access to manufacturing centers and technology hubs, federal transportation funding helps connect the physical networks that power long-term growth.
The featured projects in each state demonstrate how sustained investment helps ensure reliable access to energy resources, manufacturing facilities, and emerging technology hubs.
• In Alaska, transportation infrastructure is critical to domestic energy production and to the workers, equipment, and supply chains that support some of the nation’s most important energy assets. Federal transportation investment is helping improve access in remote regions where reliable connections are essential to economic activity, energy development, and long-term infrastructure resilience.
• In West Virginia, federal transportation funding is helping position communities to benefit from growing investment in advanced manufacturing, technology development, and energy-related industries. Stronger transportation connections support business expansion, workforce access, and freight movement—key conditions for attracting new employers and sustaining regional growth.
• In Virginia, federal transportation investment is helping improve mobility and reliability in one of the nation’s fastest-growing technology, data, and innovation regions. These improvements support advanced manufacturing, data infrastructure, and emerging technology industries while strengthening the state’s broader economic competitiveness.
This case study is part of a TCC series released ahead of the September 30 surface transportation reauthorization deadline, highlighting how federal transportation funding underpins mobility, supply chains, and economic opportunity nationwide.
