7th Annual Keep Port Everglades Shipshape painting party on Saturday, May 20 BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County's Port Everglades is hosting its 7th Annual Keep Port Everglades Shipshape painting party on Saturday, May 20, from 9 AM until 1:30 PM, in time for National Maritime Day. Keep Port Everglades Shipshape gives community volunteers the opportunity to test their creativity by painting recycled petroleum drums that will be used as decorative trash and recycling bins throughout the port. During the awards ceremony, participants learn about the economic impact Port Everglades has in the community and the important contributions that mariners make in international trade and cruise travel. Volunteer painters must register with HandsOn Broward, an organization that partners with more than 600 nonprofit local agencies to provide residents with a wide range of volunteer opportunities Keep Port Everglades Shipshape is a port-wide campaign held to encourage recycling and cleanliness at the world's third busiest cruise port and Florida's top containerized cargo port. The event recognizes National Maritime Day, which is a national celebration to honor and recognize the maritime industry and its benefits to our country.  Volunteers will have the opportunity to paint their own creative designs on recycled petroleum drums that have been cleaned and prepared for painting. After the drums have dried, they will be placed throughout the Port to be used as decorative trash and recycling receptacles. Although basic paint and supplies will be provided, volunteers may bring their own non-oil based paints (latex, acrylic) and brushes if desired for a tailored design. Awards will be given for the most creative drums. Participants over the age of 18 must present government-issued photo identification, such as a driver's license or passport, at the I-595/Eller Drive security entrance gate to Port Everglades. This year's event will take place in Cruise Terminals 22/24. Please wear comfortable clothing that can become stained by paint. Volunteers will receive a t-shirt for participating. Parking will be free.
