The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey was recently recognized for its dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) at the Transpacific Maritime Conference (TPM23) held on February 27 to March 1 in Long Beach, California.

The agency’s Port Department Director, Bethann Rooney, was a panelist at the conference and accepted the Best Stand Out Retention award in person on behalf of the agency, which was the second year in a row that the agency received a DEI-related achievement at the conference.

Among the initiatives cited were the vast array of Employee Business Resource Groups (EBRGs) that the Port Authority supports and its staff training efforts. The independent panel of judges noted that “as a large organization that has been heavily invested in DEI for over five years, the maturity shows in the various activities and investments of the Port Authority.”

In 2021, TPM launched the “Salute to Diversity” honors to recognize leadership in DEI in the transportation and logistics industry. Building on the momentum of its first year, TPM expanded the program to include multiple categories and ensure a range of organizations are recognized. It plans to continue the honors in the future.
