The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“On behalf of the Port Commission, we are proud to see the Department’s dedication rewarded with this special recognition for work they do consistently throughout the year,” Port Commission Chairman Shane Pirtle said. “Their exemplary commitment contributes to the practice of keeping our accounting and financial reporting system at the highest national standard possible.”

The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR. The GFOA is a major professional association serving more than 21,000 governmental finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL and Washington, D.C.
