The Port of Corner Brook and marine terminal operator LOGISTEC, an Enstructure company, marked the launch of Nunavut Eastern Arctic Shipping’s (NEAS) new liner service to Western Newfoundland with the arrival of the ice-class vessel UKPIK. As terminal operator, LOGISTEC manages the end-to-end marine logistics, including receiving, unloading, storage, consolidation, staging and vessel loading of cargo destined for Arctic communities. LOGISTEC loaded the UKPIK with a fleet of Arctic-grade commercial “Silver Dolphin” aluminum boats manufactured in Newfoundland and destined for Arctic communities.
“Corner Brook is uniquely positioned to support Northern and Arctic logistics. Located on the western shore of Newfoundland, the Port is along key routes connecting Atlantic Canada, international markets and the Arctic,” said Kelly Smith, CEO of the Corner Brook Port Corporation. “For us, this opportunity is about more than moving cargo. It is about opening new markets and creating new opportunities for Newfoundland and Labrador companies. By connecting our province’s manufacturers, producers and service providers to new domestic and international markets, the Port can play an important role in expanding trade and supporting economic growth across Western Newfoundland and the province. This shipment is a great example of what is possible when our location and infrastructure are combined with strong transportation partners, local expertise and Canadian-made products.”

“NEAS’s mission is to translate our decades of specialized Arctic shipping experience into providing new and innovative solutions to supplying northern communities and support food security and economic development in the mining and energy sectors, and community wellbeing throughout the Arctic,” said Daniel Dagenais, President of NEAS. “With a 5-month Arctic shipping season, increasing activity through Corner Brook will allow us to build an additional connection between the North and Atlantic Canada while creating greater flexibility in our operations.”
As activity grows in critical minerals, mining, infrastructure and wind energy development across Newfoundland and the Arctic, Corner Brook has the potential to serve as a regional logistics hub where cargo can be consolidated, staged and prepared for seasonal Arctic delivery.
The launch of NEAS’s new liner service to Western Newfoundland, providing regular stops to Corner Brook, plus the arrival of the UKPIK demonstrates that Arctic logistics opportunities are no longer a future concept for Corner Brook. They are already taking shape today through practical partnerships, real cargo movements and a shared commitment to building stronger connections between Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada’s North.
