Schneider National Inc., a premier multimodal provider of transportation, intermodal and logistics services, announced today the release of its 2022 Corporate Responsibility Report, which highlights how the company is fulfilling its commitments to reduce its environmental impact, advance diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) throughout the company, reinvest in communities, and conduct operations responsibly.

“We made notable progress this past year when it comes to achieving our sustainability goals and enriching our culture, and we are committed to continually improving and demonstrating what it means to be a leader in corporate responsibility,” said Schneider President and CEO Mark Rourke.

Schneider’s strategic environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives are focused on cutting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and lessening overall environmental impact, attracting and maintaining a diverse workforce, and improving the communities in which the company operates.

Throughout 2022, Schneider made progress in:

  • Meeting sustainability goals. The carrier operates one of the most efficient fleets in North America, and moving goods as efficiently as possible means less emissions. Schneider is investing in advancing efficiency even further in the near- and long-term through electrification, optimizing diesel trucks and harnessing the power of data analytics. Schneider laid the foundation to add 92 battery electric vehicles to its southern California intermodal operations in 2023.
  • Supporting customers’ environmental efforts. Schneider is one of the few North American shipping and logistics companies that develops capabilities and technologies to improve its own sustainability efforts while also helping customers understand and reduce their carbon emissions. Schneider works with customers to understand, measure and reduce their Scope 3 emissions and advise on how the carbon footprint associated with transportation fits into their overarching emissions reduction goals.
  • Investing in associates and drivers. Schneider offers a diverse and inclusive workplace where people can excel and are respected and valued. For the second consecutive year, the percentage of women in driver roles increased (now 12%), along with an increase in diversity across its associate base (nearly 50%) and in leadership positions (almost 18%).
  • Giving back to the community. Each year, the company sets aside part of its annual profits to support nearly 400 organizations, centering around four key areas of giving – arts and culture, education, children, and health and human services. In 2022, the Schneider Foundation donated $2.5 million in grants to support and provide relief to local communities where it does business.
