WASHINGTON – Congressman Paul Mitchell (MI-10) released the following statement after the Army Corps of Engineers included money for modernizing and upgrading the Soo Locks in its FY19 work plan:

“I was excited to see the Soo Locks received money for needed upgrades in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) FY19 work plan. Since coming to Congress I have been working with my colleagues in Congress – especially Rep. John Moolenaar (MI-4) and Rep. Jack Bergman (MI-1) – and the Trump Administration to advance this project. With the inclusion of these funds in the USACE FY19 work plan, the Soo Locks complex moves one giant step closer to breaking ground on the new construction it needs. I will continue to do everything and anything I can in Congress to finalize this project, and protect our district, Michigan, and our nation from economic risk.”
