Transplace, a leading provider of transportation management services and logistics technology solutions, today announced that it was awarded Sonoco’s (NYSE:SON) Strategic Partnership Award at the 2018 Sonoco Supplier Summit. Transplace was selected for completing an end-to-end assessment of Sonoco’s logistics operations in order to optimize its transportation processes and spend.

One of the largest diversified global packaging companies, Sonoco produces packaging for many of the world’s most recognized brands in markets such as appliances and electronics, automotive, beverages, frozen and refrigerated food and more. Each year, Sonoco recognizes key suppliers that have demonstrated new value creation and a commitment to sharing resources to create innovative and sustainable solutions that improve Sonoco’s business, support organizational changes and help meet changing needs.
“Sonoco selected Transplace because of its scale, strong engineering capabilities and knowledge of the North American freight network; and the partnership has added significant value to our organization,” said Richard Wynne, global sourcing director, Sonoco. “The Transplace-led evaluation of Sonoco’s people, processes and infrastructure became the roadmap to becoming a much-improved and technology-equipped organization that is better prepared for and more effective in today’s dynamic market. Transplace has been a valuable partner in our logistics operations and it is our pleasure to present them with our 2017 Strategic Partnership Award.”
As part of the relationship, Transplace effectively supports Sonoco’s sourcing process for its truckload spend, created and supports the company’s baseline metrics along with a three year roadmap that will deliver significant return-on-investment (ROI) via network optimization, revamped processes and advanced technology. In turn, access to real-time business intelligence dashboards and reporting allows Sonoco to better track transportation spend and performance.
“In today’s competitive market, it was critical for Sonoco to understand how its logistics operations compared with peer groups and gain an honest assessment of where it needed to improve to compete and service the needs of its internal and external customers,” Ben Cubitt, senior vice president for engineering and procurement, Transplace. “This award demonstrates the value that Transplace has been able to provide, and we will continue to leverage our engineering capabilities, scale and sourcing best practices to deliver meaningful and sustainable results for Sonoco.”
