Introduction

Sea Cargo Logistics (SCL), a member of the XLProjects Network (XLP), in collaboration with a freight forwarding partner in Argentina, successfully coordinated the transportation of a 42-ton Firewater Pump House from Ciudad Mitras, Nuevo León, Mexico, to Buenos Aires, Argentina, as part of a project for Vaca Muerta. The operation combined specialized inland transportation to the Port of Altamira with breakbulk ocean transportation to Buenos Aires, covering approximately 8,100 kilometers from origin to destination.

Body

The Firewater Pump House measured 16.30 M long, 4.02 M wide and 5.06 M high. Its dimensions, particularly the 5.06 M height, required careful planning around route feasibility, handling requirements and ocean stowage.

Before the inland move, SCL conducted a route survey from Ciudad Mitras to the Port of Altamira to assess feasibility and plan the transportation strategy. The cargo was then transported to the port and prepared for its breakbulk ocean shipment to Buenos Aires.

For the ocean leg, the unit was transported aboard a container vessel operating a liner service and positioned on a bed of eight flat rack containers. Due to its oversized dimensions, the cargo occupied 48 lost vessel slots. SCL coordinated the international movement with its freight forwarding partner in Argentina to ensure smooth execution through to destination.

The operation demonstrates SCL's ability to develop project logistics solutions around significant dimensional constraints, combining route planning, specialized inland transportation and non-standard ocean stowage for cargo that cannot be handled through conventional logistics solutions.
