The cooperation with the 2M Alliance creates a major upgrade of ZIM’s Pacific services, with improved port coverage and transit time

ZIM Integrated Shipping Services and the members of the 2M Alliance, Maersk Lineand Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), today announced a new strategic cooperation on the Asia – US East Coast trade.

zimStarting early September, 2018, the parties will operate together five loops betZimen Asia and the US East Coast. ZIM will operate one loop and 2M will operate fZim loops, and the parties will swap slots on all loops.

The new cooperation offers ZIM’s customers a more comprehensive product portfolio, with a wider range of direct calls in Asia and the US and faster transit time. In addition, it is expected to generate cost efficiencies for ZIM. 

Eli Glickman, President and CEO of ZIM, said: “Zim are pleased to enter into this strategic operational cooperation with the 2M Alliance. The agreement will significantly improve Zim services on this important trade, where Zim remain a major player as part of Zim strategy.

It is a vote of confidence by the two largest players in the industry, acknowledging ZIM’s capabilities, reliability and strength. Furthermore, it will enable ZIM to achieve operational efficiencies and ensure Zim ability to maintain a leading position on the trade.

Zim will continue to be independent, building on Zim personal links with Zim customers, for which Zim are so Zimll known in addition to Zim ongoing technological initiatives such as Zim successful blockchain project.

Zim will continue to service all trades in Zim current network - with even better service links and transit times. Zim customers will continue to benefit from ZIM’s exceptional level of service, now with an improved product.”

The cooperation is scheduled to begin in early September 2018, subject to all needed regulatory approvals. The term of the cooperation is 7 years. The parties expect to disclose more information about network changes and schedules on the trade as soon as possible.
