National Work Zone Awareness Week Is Almost Here!
Apr 16, 2026When industry voices join together, it advances the safety standards our workers deserve. We need you in our coalition this month. Every roadway worker deserves a safe shift.
Nearly 900 people lose their lives each year in work zones, and more than 100,000 crashes occur annually, affecting roadway and work zone workers and motorists alike. ATSSA's annual National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) campaign brings together the general public, policymakers, the press, and industry stakeholders to change those numbers, because everyone deserves to make it home.

This year’s national kickoff will take place in Farmington, Connecticut, where the Connecticut Department of Transportation will center the event on the theme "Safe Actions Save Lives," using powerful visuals and tributes to honor fallen workers and underscore the real risks in work zones.
The event will bring together state and federal leaders, including Federal Highway Administration Administrator Sean McMaster and Governor Ned Lamont, to highlight roadway safety efforts, showcase work zone technologies, and reinforce the importance of safer driving for those working on the road.
Safety is a shared responsibility. Here's how you can show up: Use the graphic below to notify your network of your participation and help spread the message that work zones are a sign to slow down.
- Amplify the Human Story: NWZAW is where industry voices come together to reach lawmakers and the public. Share worker testimonials, put a face to the statistics, and help your audience understand these are preventable crashes, not accidents. Use #Orange4Safety and #NWZAW.
- Go Orange on April 22: Wear orange, rally your team, post your pics and use this social media cheat sheet to support awareness efforts.
