CMA CGM Group transported 420 bottles of Burgundy wine to Le Havre on September, 17th after more than 3 months at sea on board the vessels CMA CGM Manet and CMA CGM Azure. The 80-day trip around the world began on June, 14th, in the great tradition of epics inspired by Jules Verne, from the Panama Canal to the Suez Canal, Sydney, Singapore, via Port Kelang, Chennai, Colombo , Damietta, Malta, Genoa, Tilbury, Rotterdam and Hamburg, they, then, complete their journey across five continents. The operation was organized by CMA CGM, the third world group and the first French container shipping company, along with JF Hillebrand, the world’s leading wines and spirits logistics provider, and the Confrérie du Tastevin in order to promote internationally the great wines of Burgundy and to demonstrate that container transport perfectly preserves wine’s aromas and flavors. During a ceremony on June, 7th at the Château du Clos de Vougeot, the selected wines were loaded in a high-tech refrigerated container called “reefer” that maintains the wine at a constant temperature of 15°C providing both protection and proper preservation during transport. These 420 bottles include the following wines from Burgundy: Crémant de Bourgogne Rosé tasteviné, Saint-Aubin 2010 tasteviné, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru les Saint-Georges Hospices de Nuits 2007 and Corton Renardes Grand Cru 2007 tasteviné. In mid-October the “Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin” will organize a wine tasting in order to compare the wines that will have travelled with the same wines that will have been stored in the Cistercian cellar during the time of the trip. The epics will then turn into reality, and with this tasting, the Brotherhood willl perpetuate its founders’ commitment: promoting the influence of Burgundy wines all around the world. A gala dinner will take place at the Château du Clos de Vougeot on October, 25th, marking the end of this amazing journey.
