Oy Procargo - Professional Cargo Care in Finland and Ocean Knight Shipping in Shanghai chartered one of Volga-Dnepr Airlines' new IL-76TD-90VD freighters to transport a 34-ton metallic roll and equipment to a paper factory in China.
'
Loading the shipment in Finland required the use of the aircraft's special extension ramp and roller system and internal winches. The cargo was positioned for loading using two cranes.

After holding two previous records for the heaviest single piece loads carried onboard the IL-76TD-90VD, Procargo's Managing Director, Wolfgang Karau, said he was proud his company had successfully organised another heavyweight movement using the aircraft. He said: "Using the skills and techniques of Russian operated cargo airplanes of various sizes is common for global forwarders such as ourselves but it is always a good experience to attend the loading/offloading of these flights to see how these extraordinary operations work.'
'
In Shanghai, Ocean Knight Shipping pulled out all the stops to ensure safe offloading, customs clearance and inland transportation to the shipment's final site. This was made even more challenging by the tight security surrounding the Worldexpo taking place in the city at the same time.
'
Despite torrential rains in Shanghai during the offloading operation, Ocean Knight's Project Manager, Evan Chen, managed to achieve the time schedule agreed with the support of crane operators, hauliers and the airport authorities.
