Averitt expands North America services with Laredo Distribution Center

Averitt Express has expanded its facility in Laredo, TX with the addition of 35,000-sq.-ft of distribution and fulfillment space. ACT research For-Hire Trucking Index highlights tght supply-demand balance

The latest release of ACT’s For-Hire Trucking Index, with October data, showed a second consecutive month of record tightness. October’s Volume Index was flat at 70.7 (SA), while Pricing dropped two points to 69.2, but still a top-decile result. With capacity and driver availability in contraction territory, at 45.8 and 28.6, respectively, the combination of strong demand and tight supply pushed the Supply-Demand Balance to its tightest level in survey history, now at 74.9.

Africa’s installed capacity of renewable energy, which stood at 12.6 gigawatt (GW) in 2019, is set for consecutive years of growth, a Rystad Energy analysis shows. The continent’s capacity is forecast to reach 16.8 GW in 2020, add another 5.5 GW in 2021, and further climb to 51.2 GW in 2025, led by growth in solar and wind projects in Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco and Ethiopia.

Solar flight pioneer Bertrand Piccard’s Solar Impulse Foundation has embarked on a hunt for 1,000 innovative ideas that prove that sustainable solutions can also be economically attractive. The foundation has come up with an illustrious list that has featured a familiar name since November: squAIR-timber. Developed by trilatec GmbH, this system replaces wood pallets and beams used in air freight transportation with comparable solutions made out of cardboard fiber. squAIR-timber products are 80 per cent lighter than wood, dramatically lowering fuel consumption and helping to reduce CO2 emissions from global air freight transportation.
