FLORENCE, Ky. – Pilots flying for major logistics companies such as Amazon Air and DHL through contracted carriers Atlas Air, Southern Air, and ABX Air will protest at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) to raise alarm about their carriers’ futures and stalled contract negotiations that are creating serious working condition issues. CVG is the largest hub for each of the carriers.

Atlas Air and Southern Air are owned by Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings (NASDAQ: AAWW), which suffered a poor performance last quarter. Meanwhile, ABX Air Inc. is a subsidiary of Air Transport Services Group. The pilots are represented by their union, Airline Professionals Association (APA), Teamsters Local 1224.

The protest comes as Amazon Air’s operation grows more reliant on its partnership with Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport (CVG) for success; Amazon broke ground on its new $1.5 billion hub at CVG this May with plans to officially open for business in 2021.

Pilots will carry signs that read “AAWW + ABX Air Pilots: Overworked, underpaid & exploited. It’s just plane wrong,” and “Poor management, awful retention & low morale: Now AAWW investors are paying the price.”
