TMEIC and Boluda Shipping announce a significant digital transformation targeted at the major forces shaping modern terminal operations – a new operational model for managing truck and terminal interactions to be implemented by Boluda Maritime Terminals, driven by TMEIC's Pulse Mobile digital gate platform.
The new process, which will be implemented at Boluda Maritime Terminals Tenerife in the Canary Islands, moves key operational activities upstream to address issues well in advance of trucks reaching the gate. This shift helps reduce operational bottlenecks, providing end-to-end visibility and improving efficiency and connectivity between terminals and the trucking community.
Pulse Mobile facilitates the coordination between Boluda, carriers and drivers that makes the reconfigured truck and terminal process possible. From the moment carriers receive work orders to pick up or deliver a load, Boluda and the trucking community get full visibility, all the way through the validation of operational information, incident management, terminal access, ground operations and departure. Real-time connectivity enables improved coordination and decision-making, while reducing errors, providing full transaction histories and eliminating paperwork. The platform's vendor-agnostic nature allows it to integrate with Boluda's existing terminal operating systems (TOS), port community systems (PCS) and other technology platforms, rather than replacing them or requiring a specific provider.
In previous real-world deployments by TMEIC, Pulse Mobile has proven capable of resolving up to 80%* of issues before trucks arrive at the gate, reducing gate cycle times by up to 50%* and boosting lane availability by up to 98%*. This significantly reduces congestion at access points, enables more predictable operational flows and minimizes wasted trips and time spent idling, which in turn helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These efficiency gains can enable transport companies to complete up to two* additional trips each day.
Pulse Mobile also allows Boluda to reduce dependence on gate equipment like kiosks and printers – an approach that has enabled other operations using the solution to reduce spending on maintenance and parts by up to 60%*. It also yields safety benefits by allowing clerks to manage entry processes away from heavy machinery, noise and the elements, thereby reducing their exposure to exhaust fumes and injury risks.
"The global maritime industry is at a tipping point, in which digital transformation is unlocking a new generation of interconnected, data-driven and sustainable operations. We're honored to partner with Boluda to help drive this evolution," says Francisco Grau, Managing Director, TMEIC Port Technologies, S.L.U. "This project reflects our broader vision for the future of terminals, in which integrated software, automation and operational intelligence redefine what ports can achieve."
