The European Union and the U.S. exchanged tariff threats this week after the World Trade Organization, in its ruling over illegal state aid America provided to Boeing Co., gave the EU permission to impose duties on $4 billion worth of U.S. goods.

Boris Johnson is set to decide on Friday whether to abandon trade talks with the European Union after the bloc’s leaders refused to give him the clear signal he wants in order to remain at the table.

China is set to pass a new law that would restrict sensitive exports vital to national security, expanding its toolkit of policy options as competition grows with the U.S. over access to technologies that will drive the modern economy.

Hong Kong demanded the U.S. withdraw its pending regulation to label goods manufactured in the city as ‘Made in China,’ expressing its “strong objection” to the requirement at a meeting of the World Trade Organization.

In support of the National Strategy for Critical and Emerging Technologies, Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross said the Department is fully behind the President’s strategy and has already implemented a number of export controls on emerging technologies. Earlier this month, the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) in Commerce imposed controls on six more emerging technologies, bringing the total to 37.  

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agriculture specialists in Cincinnati recently confiscated 1,272 pounds of mooncakes and 359 pounds of other prohibited items during Special Operation Over the Moon.
