The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that the Port of Hueneme has been awarded $1.68 million in the Port Security Grant Program FY20 Funding Cycle. Aimed to achieve the goal of a secure and resilient nation, the funding will aid the Port in modernizing their security, including improvements to the main gate entrance, and upgrading the Port’s CCTV surveillance system with cutting-edge technology.

In anticipation of Hurricane Hannah, the Port of Brownsville advised all port tenants to take necessary preparations for potentially hazardous weather expected from the storm. In an abundance of caution, sandbags were distributed to port tenants in anticipation of heavy rainfall.

The Maritime Employers Association (MEA) has advised that the Longshoremen’s Union has filed another 72 hour notice of a strike commencing: Monday, August 3rd at 07:00 and ending on Friday, August 7th at 06:59. This strike will affect only Termont Terminal. MGT Terminals will continue to work normally. The situation remains fluid and may change at short notice. Callan Marine of Galveston, Texas announced that a fifth cutter suction dredge (CSD), the General Bradley, will be added to the company’s fleet next year. The new dredge is a 28”, 341-foot long, diesel electric powered CSD with three ABC 12DCZ engines providing 9,260 total installed horsepower on board.

Business as usual this weekend at the Port of Montreal. Activities at the Termont and MGTP container terminals (Cast, Maisonneuve, Racine and Viau terminals) in the Port of Montreal will resume as normal over the weekend. Operations will recommence on Saturday, August 1 at 7: 00 a.m. at the four Termont and MGTP terminals.
