On the 14 August, the naming ceremony was held at Damen Shipyards Gorinchem for the Peter Wessels. The new Damen ASD Tug 2810 handed over to Neue Schleppdampfschiffsreederei Louis Meyer GmbH & Co. KG (Louis Meyer) which is based in Hamburg. Even by Damen standards this was exceptionally fast. The contract for the new vessel was signed exactly four months earlier, on the 14th of April.

Port of Montreal returns to work after 12-day strike

After a 12-day strike, the Longshoremen Union CUPE Local 375 and the Montreal Checkers’ Union at the Port of Montreal have returned to work. A deal was reached on Friday, laying out a seven-month plan to continue negotiations with management without the threat of work stoppages.

Hapag Lloyd is reporting that the Montreal Longshore Union (CUPE 375) and the Checkers Union (ILA) have agreed to end the strike at the Port of Montreal and to continue negotiations while working. The terminals in Montreal are expected to open Monday, August 24, 2020.

On August 14, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Cincinnati seized 7,500 counterfeit phone cases and 2,040 counterfeit phone fronts from three shipments at local cargo facilities. The fake items came from China and would have been worth a total of $374,020 had they been genuine.
