Navigability on the Amazon River: Implementation of a Low Water Surcharge

As part of an ongoing operational assessment of the Amazon River system, they are closely monitoring the reduction in water levels during the second half of the year and its impact on navigation to and from Manaus.
Current technical assessments indicate a relevant reduction in navigable draft conditions during the critical period, which will result in a significant decrease in overall transport capacity and vessel utilization.
These limitations result in additional operational costs related to cargo handling, vessel capacity, vessel allocation, route adjustments, additional pilotage fees, a possible floating pier, administrative costs, and other measures necessary to maintain service continuity.
To ensure safe navigation and maintain the continuity of our service to and from the port of Manaus, CMA CGM will be implementing a Low Water Surcharge (LWS) as follows:
• Amount: USD 753 per TEU
• Effective Date:
- September 6th, 2026 from all Origins Long-Haul Trades to Manaus, Brazil
- October 5th, 2026 from Manaus, Brazil to all Destination Long-Haul Trades
• Equipment: Applies to all equipment types
If river conditions require the use of a floating pier to support berthing, cargo handling, or the safe transfer of containers during periods of reduced draft, the related operational
arrangements, equipment mobilization, handling structure, and associated third-party costs the applicable surcharge will be revised.
They will continue to closely monitor developments and keep customers informed of any relevant changes.
