Alexandria, VA  - The Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) has released its Fourth Quarter 2017 TIA 3PL Market Report. The results show that participants’ total shipments decreased slightly compared to Q3 2017 and gross profit margin percentage experienced a decrease of 90 basis points.

Combined total shipments of truckload, intermodal, and LTL increased 0.8 percent. Companies with less than $16 million annual revenue bolstered total shipments by 20.5%, with a corresponding revenue improvement of 5.2% over Q3 2017 activities.

The report represents more than 1.4 million shipments and over $2.8 billion in total revenue for Q4 2017:

The report contains rolling eight-quarter trends, fuel price comparisons, and enables 3PLs and industry observers to view how the industry is performing as well as to compare their business to companies of a similar size. Additionally, the report includes detailed 3PL activities by transportation mode and measures comparative volume, revenue, margin and margin percentages, quarterly and year over year.

The publication is based on a monthly data submissions and surveys of TIA members who provide current operating data, and answer questions on business conditions affecting the 3PL industry. TIA’s efforts provide a comprehensive report on the trends and practices of the 3PL industry.
