Together with HB Hunte Engineering, Oldenburg, Hartmann Reederei in Leer currently develops a new, optimized green ship design for a 2,500 TEU container carrier fuelled with LNG.

Renowned as an expert for innovative gas carriers, Hartmann Reederei expands its field of activity and develops tried and tested technologies for further segments of its fleet. Accordingly, the new eco-friendly container carrier will deploy proven features from the company’s pioneering ECO STAR gas carriers.

The new design features the innovative “Svelte” bow, which enables a vessel to improved seakeeping at higher transit speeds and improved fuel efficiency. The enhanced hull lines minimize ballast water demand, which again leads to lower power demand, lower consumption and lower emissions. With the superstructures located at the bow, the new design also ensures an ideal line of sight for a container carrier.

Further features, like the MAN Kappel propeller with rudder bulb system and the HB Hunte Twist-Flow Rudder, reduce energy loss and improve propulsion efficiency. The new eco fuel vessel type will also comprise the ability to meet IMO Tier III regulations.

The basic design process has been completed, and negotiations with a number of interested parties are underway already. The first 2,500 TEU eco fuel container carrier could be launched within 24 months after closing.
