First-Ever Young Professional Model of Excellence Award celebrates success of the next generation of leaders in the Industry

ALEXANDRIA, VA – The American Moving & Storage Association (AMSA) proudly announces the winner of the inaugaural Young Professional Model of Excellence Award: James O’Connell, co-owner and east coast operations manager of A Perfect Move in Kittery, Maine.

The Young Professional Model of Excellence Award celebrates the most accomplished and innovative young businessmen and women who have been making headlines in their field and who share a commitment to business growth, professional excellence, the moving and storage industry and the community. After graduating from college with a degree in industrial design, O’Connell moved to Maine to support the business that his mother, Genevieve Benton, and sister, Erin O’Connell-Johnson, had started — A Perfect Move.

Since that time, the business has steadily grown each year. O’Connell also opened A Perfect Move's Hilton Head, S.C., location in 2013, and spent three years developing it to run under remote management. His primary efforts have focused on supporting young, eager employees and creating innovative avenues for business growth. Last year, his efforts were rewarded as both of A Perfect Move's locations received awards as "Best Movers" in their respective regions.

“I'm extremely honored and humbled to be the first recipient of this AMSA Award. This is a reflection of the tireless efforts and pursuit of perfection that our amazing staff puts forth on a daily basis,” said O’Connell. “My conception of our business model stems from my mother's love for and commitment to the community and our loyal clients. Our clients, staff, and community are integral parts of our business and we strive to involve them in our family-oriented atmosphere.”

“Congratulations to James O’Connell as the first winner of this prestigious award for young professionals. He has earned this honor by demonstrating strong leadership, an innovative spirit and personal support for the community,” said Scott Michael, AMSA president and CEO. “The moving and storage industry values the many contributions made by young leaders like James, who are constantly striving to ensure the industry stays on the road to success.”

The Young Professional Model of Excellence Award is hosted by 40Below, AMSA’s young professional networking group, which exists to help young professionals grow within their careers, and help give a voice to the future leaders of the industry. The goals of the group include peer-to-peer education, support to the community, and industry innovation. This award honors a young professional who lives and exemplifies these goals through their career and everyday life.
