Louisville & Indiana Railroad (LIRC), an Anacostia Rail Holdings company, proudly announces that Kathleen “Katie” Sackett, Senior Director of Sales & Marketing, has been named a recipient of the Railway Age2026 Women in Rail Award. The award recognizes women whose leadership and contributions are helping shape the future of the railroad industry.

“Katie’s industry knowledge, commitment to our customers, and dedication to growing our business make her an important part of the LIRC team. Beyond her professional accomplishments, she is passionate about supporting other women in rail and contributing to the communities we serve. We’re proud to see her recognized for the leadership and commitment she brings to our industry,” said John Goldman, President of Louisville & Indiana Railroad.

With more than 24 years of railroad industry experience, Sackett has built her career around customer relationships and business development. She began her railroad career with Southern Pacific Lines and later worked at BNSF Railway before taking a 10-year break to raise her two sons. She subsequently returned to the industry on the short line side, joining Wisconsin & Southern Railroad, a Watco company, before coming to LIRC in 2017. Today, she leads Sales & Marketing for both LIRC and Northern Lines Railway in Minnesota, and helps to strengthen customer relationships and identify opportunities for growth.

Sackett is also active in economic development and community service across Indiana. She serves on boards associated with Jackson County, Greater Columbus, and Aspire Economic Development/Chamber Alliance. A strong advocate for women in rail, she mentors women at Anacostia Rail Holdings and has participated in panels hosted by Women in Rail and the National Association of Railway Business Women. She also serves as a certified Operation Lifesaver volunteer, supporting railroad safety education.

Through her business leadership, community involvement, and commitment to mentoring others, Sackett exemplifies the dedication and forward-thinking leadership recognized by the Railway Age Women in Rail Award.
