Maersk Supply Service, together with Alcatel Submarine Networks, will install a system for monitoring and optimizing oil production from the Mero field for Petrobras 180 km off the Brazilian coast at Rio de Janeiro.

The so-called PRM system - it stands for Permanent Reservoir Monitoring - is based on Optowave technology and developed by ASN Norway, which will be responsible for the completion, manufacture, installation, and commissioning of the PRM system.

From the company's office in Rio de Janeiro, Maersk Supply Service will manage the project, and design and execute the offshore installation itself, which will be carried out by Maersk Installer, one of the company's I-Class subsea support vessels.

"We look forward to building on our positives with Petrobras and to providing good solutions and safe operations with our project management, technical capabilities, and our advanced I-Class vessel, which is specially designed for complex subsea constructions," says Steen S. Karstensen, CEO of Maersk Supply Service.

Built-in 2017 and sailing under the British flag, Maersk Installer is one of four I-Class vessels in the Maersk Supply Service fleet.
