Holland & Knight continues to strengthen its leading Maritime Team with the addition of Carrol Hand as senior counsel in Richmond, Va. Prior to joining Holland & Knight, she was associate general counsel for a major global logistics service provider.

Hand’s prior work experience, in addition to in-house counsel at the global logistics provider, includes being associate general counsel at a major container ocean carrier, counsel to a commissioner on the Federal Maritime Commission, and associate general counsel at a major ship registry.

At Holland & Knight, Ms. Hand focuses her practice on a wide range of international and domestic maritime issues, including transactional, litigation and regulatory compliance matters, with a particular focus on matters involving the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission (FMC). She also has in-depth knowledge of a variety of maritime law, transportation law, corporate law, contract law, supply chain logistics, bankruptcy law and collections issues.

While Ms. Hand is not currently admitted to practice in Virginia (bar application pending), she is practicing under the supervision of attorneys licensed to practice in the state. She is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia and New York.

Hand earned a J.D. degree from Tulane University Law School, a M.S. degree from the University of Windsor and a B.A. degree from Barnard College, Columbia University.

On February 27, Holland & Knight is launching The Commission, an essential blog on the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC). The blog is focused on explaining the impact of the FMC’s filings and actions against supply chain logistics intermediaries and ocean carriers on the shippers and consignees. Ms. Hand serves as an editor of the blog.
