The Port of New York and New Jersey welcomed a new vessel, the Grande New York, during a christening ceremony held at FAPS Port Newark Auto Terminal on Wednesday, April 18, 2018. The Grande New York is part of the fleet of the Grimaldi Group, a fully integrated multinational logistics group specializing in maritime transport of cars, rolling cargo, containers, and passengers.

During the ceremony Amanda Cole, granddaughter of the former late New York Governor, Mario Cuomo, and niece of the New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was named godmother of the vessel.
The Grande New York can carry 6,700 CEU (Car Equivalent Units) or alternatively 4,000 linear meters of rolling freight and 2,500 CEU. It is equipped with four hoistable decks, which make it an extremely flexible vessel, able to transport any type of rolling cargo (cars, vans, trucks, tractors, buses, excavators, etc.) up to 5.2 meters high.
The Grande New York is part of a program designed to enhance maritime links between the Mediterranean and North America. The vessel has a length of 199.90 meters, a width of 32.26 meters, a gross tonnage of 63,000, and a cruising speed of 19 knots.
The Port of New York and New Jersey witnessed record vehicle volumes in 2017, with a 14.3 percent increase in vehicles imported and exported into the port’s public berths.
