Markel International, Singapore - Markel International, the specialist insurer, has appointed Lin Wanshi as assistant marine underwriter to join the marine underwriting team in its Singapore office.

The appointment reflects Markel’s ambitions in marine, one of its core markets, in addition to further enhancing its underwriting capabilities in the Asia Pacific.

Wanshi joins Markel from insurance broker Marsh, where she identified and developed market penetration strategies in the marine hull and liability market and serviced direct and facultative reinsurance clients across the region.

Before that she was an assistant manager with CIMC Raffles Offshore (formerly known as Yantai Raffles Shipyard Limited), managing builders’ risk insurance open cover policy for the construction of various types of rigs and specialised vessels.

Reporting to senior marine liability underwriter, Colin Fordham, Wanshi will work closely with marine underwriter Gustaf Kristiansson to further build Markel’s marine hull, liability and cargo business in the Asia Pacific.

Commenting on these appointments, Matt Cannock, managing director for Asia said: “I am delighted to welcome Wanshi – an experienced professional in our specialist markets insurance sector.”

“We are confident Markel will benefit from her knowledge and experience, as well as the extensive industry contacts she has established over the years; which will be invaluable in assisting Markel to extend its business footprint in Asia further.”
