RailWorks Corp., North America’s leader in rail track construction and maintenance services, through one of its operating subsidiaries, has been awarded a contract to build rail infrastructure at a new storage and handling yard in Gregory, Texas.
Savage Gulf Rail, LLC is building a large rail storage and handling yard at a plastics manufacturing facility in San Patricio County, Texas. RailWorks Track Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of RailWorks Corp., is contracting with Savage Gulf Rail to construct more than 134,000 track feet at the 76-acre site.
“Our selection for this important project underscores our expertise in these types of complex and long-term projects. The Gulf region is an important one for us as a corporation, and we’re looking forward to kicking off this key project,” said Kevin Riddett, RailWorks President and CEO.
The RailWorks portion of the project is expected to kick off with the track construction work this summer. Track construction is expected to be complete in 2021, with a yard in-service date later that year.
Once complete, the railyard will be able to handle/store up to 1,100 railcars and will include arrival and departure tracks for Union Pacific access. The site will also include a hydrocarbon railcar storage yard, railcar wash facility, loading facility and railcar maintenance facility.
