New York, N.Y. – RailWorks Corp., North America’s leader in rail track construction and maintenance services, has been awarded a 7-year, $133 million contract with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) to upgrade the agency’s rail network.

The MARTA system provides reliable transportation to nearly 500,000 Atlanta-area commuters every weekday. It consists of 122-miles of track, including a 48-mile rail network with 38 stations that connect Fulton, Clayton and Dekalb counties and the City of Atlanta. MARTA, the eighth largest rapid transit system in the United States, is ramping up transportation options as the area’s economy booms.

Under terms of the contract, RailWorks will be performing rail track improvements across the entire network including tie replacements, running rail replacements, direct fixation fastener replacements, special trackwork units and yard improvements. RailWorks will tap into experienced construction employment professionals in the Atlanta area, looking to hire people with skills in construction, welding and project management, among others.

“Our work with MARTA is a partnership in the truest sense of the word. MARTA is committed to providing safe and effective transport to its customers, and RailWorks is here to support those goals with this safe and successful project that will keep MARTA’s system among the most innovative in the country,” said Kevin Riddett, RailWorks CEO.

RailWorks anticipates work on the project will begin in spring 2019 with final completion in 2025.
