Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and Austrian Digital and Economic Affairs Minister Margarete Schramböck met to discuss U.S.-Austria cooperation on a variety of commercial issues. During their meeting, Secretary Raimondo and Minister Schramböck engaged on skilled workforce development, strategic investments for economic recovery, as well as joint efforts through the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council to secure supply chains and coordination on the U.S.-EU response to Russia’s unlawful aggression in Ukraine. Secretary Raimondo expressed her appreciation for Austria’s cooperation with the United States on increasing apprenticeship and skilled workforce development opportunities as our countries work towards establishing the U.S.-Austria Memorandum of Understanding Concerning Cooperation in Advancing Apprenticeship, Career and Technical Education, and Vocational and Professional Education and Training. Additionally, Secretary Raimondo acknowledged Austria’s increased investment into the United States, which supported over 33,500 U.S. jobs in 2020 in key U.S. sectors, including industrial equipment, software and IT services, plastics, metals, foods and beverages, and electronic components.
