Camden, N.J. - Andrew Saporito, a 38-year veteran of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is the new executive director of the South Jersey Port Corporation.

“Andy is the consummate professional that we need to lead our jobs-creating mission,” said Richard A. Alaimo, chairman of the SJPC Board of Directors. “He earned his way to the top leadership of one of the largest, most dynamic, busy and successful ports in the world. He excelled through all aspects of port and marine terminal operations, terminal expansion, business development, real estate leasing, administration and management.”

“Ultimately, everything we do is about creating and maintaining family-sustaining jobs for South Jersey and our state. That’s what international maritime trade brings to an economy.” 

With a staff of 122, the SJPC operates four marine terminals including the recently opened terminal in Paulsboro and is open to further “prudent expansion.”

Saporito, of Brick, N.J. assumed leadership of the South Jersey Port Corporation on July 22, becoming the fourth executive director in the fifty-year history of the Corporation. He was hired to the $150,000 a year post by the SJPC Board of Directors with approval from Governor Phil Murphy.

Prior to accepting the SJPC post, Saporito retired from the PANYNJ where he was serving as Senior Advisor – Special Projects in the Port Department.

In that position, he provided guidance and strategic direction on a number of key port initiatives. They included: development opportunities on the Military Ocean Terminal at the Bayonne peninsula; container terminal development; and the completion of the Greenville Yard intermodal rail project.

He began his Port Authority career in 1981 working his way up through planning and development, auditing, real estate and leasing. He held management positions in port sales, leasing, and facility operations and management. The Port Authority’s marine terminal complex is the largest and most comprehensive collection of maritime cargo handling facilities on the east coast of North America and the third largest operation in the United States.

In 2002, he was named General Manager of the New Jersey Marine Terminals, managing the operations, maintenance, construction, security, environmental and tenant service activities for the 2,400-acre complex.

He became Assistant Director of Business Development ten years later, where he was responsible for leasing and property development, marketing and trade development, and the finance functions of the Port Department.

He is also president of the Board of Directors of the Maritime Association of the Port of New York and New Jersey, and the Operations and Cruise Committees of the American Association of Port Authorities.

He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Commerce from Niagara University.
