$334.9 million design-build project will provide critical enabling work toward the goal of a seamless transit experience throughout LAX

Skanska has signed a five-year, $334.9 million contract with Los Angeles World Airports (“LAWA”) to serve as the design-builder for the airport authority’s Roadways, Utilities and Enabling (“RUE”) project at Los Angeles International Airport (“LAX”).

Through the RUE contract, Skanska will help relieve congestion for people traveling to and from the third busiest airport in the world and second busiest in the U.S. The RUE projects focus on restoring and constructing roadways and utilities infrastructure that will enable ongoing and future work within LAWA’s Landside Access Modernization Program (“LAMP”). LAWA’s RUE is focusing on high-priority projects necessary to support the Automated People Mover (APM), Consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) facility and Intermodal Transportation Facility (ITF)-West.

The RUE contract consists of 16 separate and distinct projects, including:

  • The 98th Street extension, which will extend that roadway from where it currently ends at Bellanca Avenue to the 405 Freeway – and where improvements to the southbound freeway on- and off-ramps will also be completed
  • Extensive utility work within the LAX Central Terminal Area
  • Construction of new wayfinding signage, which will be pivotal in helping travelers navigate the new LAX landscape once the LAMP is completed 

Individual RUE projects have been advanced by LAWA to a minimum of 30 percent design completion, and in some cases to 100 percent design completion. The project will be completed in Fall 2025.
