Wialon, the global telematics, fleet management, and IoT platform powered by European software developer Gurtam, has reached a landmark of 3.8 million vehicles connected, across over 150 countries.

The landmark comes right after Wialon’s annual Telematics and IoT global conference, which took place in Vilnius, Lithuania, on 6-8th December. The flagship event for the telematics, IoT, and fleet software community brought together around 200 experts from 50 countries. AI innovation, the transition to EVs and net-zero, and breakthrough use cases took center stage during this three-day event in Vilnius, a booming tech hub and Wialon's headquarters.

Working worldwide through a network of over 2,500 partners, Wialon serves as a tool to digitize fleets and improve performance in several key sectors: logistics and shipping, construction and heavy equipment industry, vehicle rental and leasing, cold-chain transportation, and security, and many others.

In 2023, Wialon has seen the fastest growth rate in emerging markets like South America and Africa (both growing at 30% in a number of vehicles connected to the platform), but also in more established markets like Europe (+12%) and North America (+20%), with sustained growth in MENA (+10%), and Central Asia and APAC growing at a steady rate (+5%).

Commenting from the Telematics Vilnius 2023 conference, hosted by Gurtam, Aliaksei Shchurko, CEO of Gurtam, says: “Alongside our partners, together, we have created a vibrant telematics ecosystem that continues to thrive year-on-year. We have seen remarkable growth this year, with Wialon for instance increasing the number of connected vehicles worldwide by more than 10%. Looking towards the future, we are expecting to see even further growth in specialized and vehicle focused telematics, particularly when it comes to developments in AI.

The rise of AI will change everything, and businesses will have to adapt to maximize the opportunities to source information faster, make decisions quicker and drive further efficiencies in how they work. Crucially though, the success of its application to the telematics sector relies on the industry putting more knowledge back into AI models, to supercharge its utility. From classification and automated pattern extraction, to generating predictions on anticipated vehicle requirements and maintenance, or fine-tuning the ability to distinguish and classify harsh driving from green driving, AI promises to simplify tedious processes and transform employee and platform experience.”

Over more than two decades of developing software for GPS tracking, fleet management and IoT applications, Gurtam has powered over 300,000 telematics and IoT projects implemented worldwide by its partner companies – telematics service providers and fleet solutions providers.

The global vehicle telematics market was worth USD 72.85 billion in 2022, and is anticipated to rise from USD 85.36 billion in 2023 to USD 280.78 billion by 2030. The surging demand is served by software developers like Gurtam, which underpins and connects the business capabilities of telematics and fleet management service providers, GPS and sensor hardware manufacturers, and connectivity providers.

Aliaksandr Kuushynau, Head of Wialon, says: “Reaching 3.8 million vehicles connected to the Wialon platform is a tremendous achievement which puts us in the top global fleet management software providers worldwide. It not only marks our impact, but secures a significant 4% global market share.

As fleet managers face challenges revolving around three main pillars: safety, compliance, and cost-efficiency, our partners - telematics service providers - play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of fleet operations.

At Wialon, our success stories range from optimising the operations of local delivery services, to steering the efficiency of massive logistics networks. Wialon transcends being just a tracking solution; it's a versatile tool adaptable to the distinct needs of every sector, and the diversity in size of fleets, in geographical cover or in industry and sector is an indicator of the scalability of our solutions and our partners' services. We take great pride in fostering a vibrant partner community, a space where ideas flow, experiences are shared, and collaborations thrive.”
